PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After a dismal end to an auspicious season, the Phillies have filled an opening in the front office, hiring Joe Jordan as their new director of player development.

Jordan spent the last seven season serving as the Baltimore Orioles’ director of amateur scouting.  Prior to that he served in a variety of capacities with the Montreal Expos and the Florida Marlins.

Jordan would fill the opening in player development left in the Phillies’ front office when Chuck LaMar resigned during the season.

Oct 7, 2011 – The Baltimore Orioles have relieved Andy MacPhail, who held the President of Baseball Operations position, of his duties, according to a report on Friday evening. McPhail had presided over the baseball side of the Orioles organization since 2007, when he was hired by Peter Angeles.

Ken Rosenthal had the report, as well as a bit more news on the direction of the franchise.

The Orioles finished the 2011 season with a 69-93 record, good for last-place in the AL East by a large margin. Baltimore has tallied 90-plus losses in each of the four full season MacPhail has been at the helm, bringing up the rear in the always-competitive AL East.

It’s unclear who Baltimore will bring in to fill MacPhail’s role, or if this is the first of many moves to come. We’ll be back with more as it becomes available.
