| Report: Orioles May Hire Demarlo Hale | |
(Photo by J. Meric/Getty Images) BOSTON (CBS) – The Baltimore Orioles may be interested in hiring Red Sox bench coach Demarlo Hale as their third base coach, according to a Baltimore Sun report. Hale is still under contract with the Red Sox, but his future with the team won’t be clear until the Red Sox hire a new manager. If he signs with Baltimore, the 50-year-old Hale would be reunited with O’s manager Buck Showalter. He spent three years with the skipper while in Texas from 2003-2005. Hale served as the bench coach in Boston for the last two seasons, and the team’s third base coach under Terry Francona from 2006-2009. Gotta run!. Posted in orioles-news | Comments Off

| Orioles hire new director of amateur scouting | |
The Baltimore Orioles have hired Gary Rajsich away from the Toronto Blue Jays to serve as their director of amateur scouting. “We have added a very good, veteran baseball man with this hire,” Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said in a news release. “Gary is an excellent judge of talent at all levels.” Rajsich, 57, began his scouting career with the Boston Red Sox, serving in both the amateur and professional departments from 1994-2006. Rajsich joined the Texas Rangers as a professional scout, where he served from 2006-2009. In the fall of 2009, he was hired by the Blue Jays as professional crosschecker. Selected and signed by the Houston Astros as an 11th round selection in the 1976 draft out of Arizona State University, Rajsich played four years in the major leagues (1982-85). The first baseman and right fielder made his major league debut for the New York Mets in 1982, where he also played in 1983, and played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1984) and San Francisco Giants (1985). Rajsich finished his playing career with the Chunichi Dragons in the Japan Central League (1986-88). Gotta run!. Posted in orioles-news | Comments Off

| Duquette back in game | |

Dan Duquette has something to smile about again. The Dalton native and former Red Sox general manager, is set to sign a three-year contract as the Baltimore Orioles’ president of baseball operations.
Monday November 7, 2011 If all goes according to plan, Dan Duquette will be the president of baseball operations for the Baltimore Orioles today. Multiple news reports, including one by the Associated Press, say that Duquette has signed a three-year contract to run the Orioles’ baseball operations. But Duquette’s lawyer, Anthony, A. Froio, told the Eagle Sunday night that while it isn’t accurate that Duquette has signed, it is close. “We’re working on final details,” Froio said. Duquette, 53, had his first interview with the Orioles on Friday before returning home to Massachusetts. He returned on Saturday for a second interview and stayed overnight in Baltimore. The Dalton native actually tweeted that he spent Sunday morning going to mass at St. Jude’s Shrine in Baltimore. He stayed over again Sunday night. Froio, managing partner of the Boston law firm Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, said the final details were more dotting I’s and crossing T’s than major issues. Froio has been representing Duquette since he was hired as the general manager of the Boston Red Sox in 1994. Froio is also the general counsel for the Dan Duquette Sports Academy in Hinsdale. Duquette has not worked in a major league front office since being let go by the Boston Red Sox in 2002. During that time, he has run the Sports Academy and owned the Pittsfield Dukes of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. That role did keep him connected to baseball, as he was involved in helping select college-age players for the team. Pitcher Frank Herrmann of the Cleveland Indians played for the first Dukes team, while outfielder Alex Hassan and first baseman Matt Adams are former Dukes who are prospects with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively. Duquette takes over for Andy MacPhail, who stepped aside in October after nearly five seasons running the Orioles. Baltimore has had losing records for 14 consecutive seasons, and that will be what Duquette will attempt to turn around. He was the general manager of the Red Sox from 1994-2002 and was not retained by the new ownership group led by John Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino. Prior to joining the Red Sox, Duquette was the general manager of the Montreal Expos. He actually joined the Expos in 1987 as director of player development. Duquette replaced Dave Dombrowski as general manager in 1991 and stayed with the Expos until taking his “dream job” in Boston in 1994. Duquette was the second candidate to receive multiple interviews. Tony LaCava of the Toronto Blue Jays elected to stay with the Blue Jays. The Associated Press contributed to this report. That’s all the news for today. Posted in orioles-news | Comments Off
