| Baltimore Orioles RHP Arrieta to get elbow checked… | |
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jake Arrieta will have his elbow examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles next week. Arrieta said his elbow was sore after pitching five innings against the New York Yankees on Sunday. He allowed four runs, two earned, and five hits in the loss, also finishing with six walks. Manager Buck Showalter said Arrieta has a fibrous mass growth and if surgery is necessary he should be “ready to go in the spring.” Arrieta is 10-8 with a 5.05 ERA in 22 starts this season, leading the team in victories. Infielder Cesar Izturis, who is on the 60-day disabled list after having right elbow surgery in May, reported Tuesday to Double-A Bowie to begin a minor league rehab stint. He could rejoin the Orioles on Friday. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Comment Below!. | Orioles put Vladimir Guerrero on disabled list | |
Associated Press July 17, 2011, 5:37 p.m.
Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken bone in his right hand. The move, retroactive to July 11, was revealed by Manager Buck Showalter after Saturday night’s game against Cleveland and made official Sunday. Guerrero has not played since being struck in the hand by a pitch from Boston’s Kyle Weiland on July 10. He’s batting .279 with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in. Showalter hopes to have Guerrero back on July 26 against Toronto. Etc. Boston left-hander Jon Lester could rejoin the rotation in about one week, and left fielder Carl Crawford will be back in the lineup Monday. Manager Terry Francona said before Sunday night’s game against Tampa Bay that Lester, on the 15-day DL since July 6 because of a strained muscle in his back, is scheduled to pitch one week from Tuesday against Kansas City. Crawford, sidelined by a strained left hamstring, will return for the opener of a three-game series at Baltimore. The Minnesota Twins put right-hander Scott Baker on the 15-day DL because of an elbow strain, one day before a key home series against division-leading Cleveland.
